Process

As I constantly study the movement of form in nature I am inspired. The world is filled with surprises and is ever-changing, whether it is changing ocean tides or the erosion of soil after a flood my imagination and curiosities are always peaked. Experimenting with natural materials I recreate the lyrical manner of the movement and rhythm that is created in this world. With an abstract approach to each piece I let it discover itself as the movement of my body works each one using a sense of rhythm and motion as if we are dancing, trying to work with nature, not against it, never forcing the material against its will. The stone lends itself well to these organic forms as it has its own rhythm within itself waiting to be discovered. Using hammer and chisel the stone begins to take shape; I am constantly considering the changing lines that define the form through repetition and contrast as well as the movement of the form.  Clay has its qualities for these forms as well, it can be directed to produce natural shapes as it conforms to my movement. The subtle beauty the clay produces is always amazing; I find a balance with the material as if I am collaborating with mother nature. This results in pieces that have multiple repetitions using line and form with the balance only a natural material can produce.
